Technology, Innovation, and Investment to Forge a Fresh Foundation for Viet Nam-U.S. Relations

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and U.S. President Joe Biden have jointly committed to elevate technology, innovation, and investment as a central pillar of their comprehensive strategic partnership with a landmark decision. This decision was made during the Viet Nam-U.S. high-level conference on innovation and investment held in Hanoi.

It took place as part of President Biden’s two-day State visit to Viet Nam. In a statement issued on the same day, both nations have resolved to enhance their collaboration in science, technology, and digital innovation, viewing this as a groundbreaking development in their partnership.

The United States has reaffirmed its dedication to augmenting support for Viet Nam in cultivating a highly skilled workforce for the technology sector. Recognizing Viet Nam’s immense potential in the semiconductor industry, the leaders of both countries have pledged to actively support the rapid growth of Viet Nam’s semiconductor ecosystem.

They also intend to jointly enhance Viet Nam’s standing in the global semiconductor supply chain. To pursue this objective, Viet Nam and the U.S. have unveiled initiatives aimed at developing the semiconductor workforce. This includes an initial infusion of $2 million in seed funding from the U.S. government, in collaboration with future support from the Vietnamese government and the private sector.

Furthermore, both nations have committed to comprehensive cooperation in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. They emphasize the continued importance of collaboration between leading academic institutions in the United States and Viet Nam.

This collaboration will encompass joint research initiatives, training programs, fellowships, and exchange programs, all focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
